Quick item, before I fix some lunch and head off to teach: yesterday in my composition class, I explained that students would be keeping individual journals on Blackboard. "Just think of them as blogs," I said, and was met with blank stares. Hmm. "Okay, how many of you have a blog?" Not one hand went up.
"How many of you have an iPod?"
Every hand but one went up.
Turns out they all rely on Facebook.

Hey that's interesting, I thought almost anyone using an iPod or Facebook would know what a blog is.
How many students have you got? You should ask if anyone of them is willing to send his/her iPod to a poor guy down Ecuador :P.
I had ten. One figured out that he's already had composition and can't take it again. Now I have nine.
I think I'd like an iPod too, though I'm not sure I want to wear earphones all the time and miss out on all the other ambient noises (birdsong, wind, etc.)--it's similar to the reason I don't watch music videos: I want to associate my own images with a song. Likewise, I don't want a constant soundtrack (even one of my own choosing) in my daily life. Hmm. Maybe I *don't* want an iPod?
First of all, you can use it at a low volume, YEAH that's what volume was made for :P
Second, you don't have to use it all the time(although I might do it), you could use it from time to time.
Third and last, if you *don't* want your iPod and you come across one, send it right through :D
So I guess you haven't heard about the British news report on the company in China that makes iPods for Apple?
Workers live in dorms, no visitors allowed, "Sweatshop" conditions, earning about $50.00 per month wages.
No I didn't. But that happens a lot down there. That's why lot's of companies make all their products in China.
I've heard worst stories also.
So you think I shouldn't have an iPod because of that? We shouldn't have almost anything.
